As long as you’re not looking for quiet conversation, you’re going to find at least one thing you like about Acme. Looking for a new hot spot to bring friends or impress a date? Acme has a cool space with terrific music and a trendy, young crowd (that was 70% women on a recent Saturday). Want a place to eat late without feeling awkward? We sat at 10:50 and when we left at 12:30 every table was still full. Like your food local, seasonable, sustainable and/or interestingly prepared? (if not, you probably shouldn’t be reading this blog) Noma (#1 Restaurant in the World) Co-Founder Mads Refslund will make you happy. Or maybe you just want a drink at the bar, which also draws the same great crowd with excellent and innovative cocktails.

Point is, you can come here for many reasons. But if you’re reading this, you’re probably interested in the food. The menu is a balanced mix of land, sea and soil that again is unlikely to leave anyone unsatisfied. There were lots of things I want to go back to try, but here’s a rundown of what we ordered. House-Cured Salmon * Strong horseradish flavor and fresh, flavorful salmon. It was good, but could have been better if the salmon had been sliced thinner. I also found the radicchio to be a little too bitter.

Pearl Barley & Clams

Pearl Barley and Clams ** The hearty, foamy, salty roasted sunflower broth is very unique and goes nicely with the clams and scallops. It’s also just a fun dish to eat.

Black Heirloom Carrots *** The sliced heirloom carrots and blood orange give the dish a definite sweet element. The pine and salted lardo keep it in check though. Definitely unique and worth a try.

Snapper *** The cardamom and vanilla give the fish a sweet and smokey flavor. However, the delicious green tomato in some ways steals the show and I wanted a piece of it in every bite. Acme does several types of fish in this preparation so look for it even if you don’t see snapper on the menu.

Beer & Bread Porridge ** A unique dessert indeed. Thick, foamy porridge with a hint of beer. The sweet/saltiness of the ice cream helps cut the bitter porridge, although I though it could have used a touch more sweetness.
