Why Come Here? Solid ramen option in downtown Brooklyn, good beer selection
With most of the city’s top ramen dens clustered on the Lower East Side and Midtown, it can be tough for the rest of us to get a decent bowl of noodles. But for those around downtown Brooklyn, Ganso poses a legit option. The layout is pretty formulaic with decor that’s 90% wood, an open kitchen with a counter and some tables. The ramen isn’t worthy of a trans-borough trip but you will leave with your noodle craving pleasantly satisfied. Noteworthy among ramen joints is their excellent selection of craft beers. You are in Brooklyn after all.
I hit this spot up with vegetarian blogger LetsNomNom which explains the choices below. Here’s what we tried:
Spring Rolls These have a nice crispiness and are chock full of shiitake mushrooms.
Gyoza This is a pretty standard gyoza. Nice skin and sauce but the pork was a little fatty.
Spicy Soboro Miso Ramen The best parts of this ramen are the broth and the pork. The broth is rich, tangy with a good kick to it. The pork is a combination of legit hunks of pork belly and sprinkled ground pork on top. Because who ever said there’s too much pork in my ramen? No one. Noodles and other fixin’s are decent but not exceptional.
Yasai Ramen In the past I haven’t been a fan of the vegetarian ramen, but when with a vegetarian why not give it a go. The fried tofu looked like pork and was the highlight. The soy milk broth was creamy but lacking a bit in flavor.
