I was recently invited to attend “A Second Helping of Life,” a Tasting Benefit to support SHARE. SHARE is a fantastic organization that offers supportive and educational services for woman battling breast and ovarian cancers. These services are provided free of charge by others who have faced the disease. To learn more, please visit the SHARE website.
This marked the 13th year of SHARE’s Tasting Benefit and the event was held at Pier 60 in Chelsea Piers. The gorgeous glass enclosed space was the perfect place to watch the sun set while snacking on bites from many of New York’s top female chefs. Angie Mar of Beatrice Inn served as Executive Chef alongside a full 25 other stars including Amanda Cohen (Dirty Candy), Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter) and Anita Lo (Annisa). It was truly incredible seeing so many of New York’s finest culinary wizards in one place each serving up a signature dish to support this worthy cause. Items were only a couple bites a piece making it possible to try all the amazing eats on offer. A variety of liquor, wine and craft beer vendors were also on hand to help wash it all down.
After several hours of eating, the event took a more solemn tone with touching stories of how SHARE has helped survivors by providing support and hope. This was followed by a benefit auction featuring private cooking events and foodie getaways. On the lighter side, there was also a costumed photo booth I couldn’t resist.
A “Second Helping of Life” was an incredible opportunity to meet and sample dishes from many of New York’s top chefs while supporting a tremendous organization. If you’re a food lover who is in the position to do so, I highly recommend checking out next year’s event. Here’s a look at some of what I ate:
